Tiffany Acuff, AMFT

Hi, I’m Tiffany. I have been married to my husband, Will, for more than twenty years, and we are parents to two incredible children through transracial domestic adoption. My family’s lived experience also includes navigating life within the disability community through my oldest child.

These personal experiences deeply shape the way I understand relationships, identity, and the systems that influence our lives. They are part of why I chose to become a marriage and family therapist and to practice from a systemic lens. I believe no person exists outside of context, and I approach therapy with a deep respect for the relational, cultural, and environmental factors that shape each client’s story. My goal is to hold your identity and experiences with care, honoring the full context in which your life unfolds.

At Whole Self Counseling, you are given space to reconnect with your authentic self without fear of losing attachment or connection. The way I work is shaped by years of understanding what it feels like to silence parts of yourself just to stay safe. This lived experience allows me to meet you with genuine compassion and a deep appreciation for how hard this journey can be.

My background in trauma-informed care and years spent supporting individuals and communities (Corner to Corner) have shown me how self-betrayal, guilt, and anxiety take root. This insight now helps clients recognize their own patterns with clarity and kindness, rather than shame. You benefit from an approach that sees your symptoms not as failures, but as understandable responses that deserve thoughtful care.

In our work together, you will experience a deeply attuned therapeutic process that blends Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Compassionate Inquiry. These experiential methods help you understand the parts of yourself that have long been unheard, creating a path toward emotional safety and self-leadership. Clients often describe feeling lighter, clearer, and more connected to who they truly are.

My commitment is to provide support that feels grounding, meaningful, and transformative. Whether through individualized therapy or experiential workshops, you will be guided in navigating the complexities of authenticity and attachment in a way that helps you thrive, not just cope.

If you feel stuck or disconnected from yourself, you do not have to navigate it alone.

What is an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist (AMFT)?

Associate means that I am temporarily licensed be the state of TN until I reach the required hours for licensure.

A Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is a mental health professional trained to understand people within the context of their relationships, both past and present. Instead of viewing struggles as individual “problems,” MFTs look at the patterns, dynamics, and survival strategies you learned in your family, relationships, and environment.

MFTs are uniquely trained to help individuals, couples, and families:

  • Improve communication and connection

  • Navigate conflict with more understanding and less reactivity

  • Heal attachment wounds and relational trauma

  • Identify protective patterns that keep you stuck

  • Create healthier, more authentic relationships—with yourself and others

MFTs receive specialized training in systems theory, meaning we don’t just treat symptoms; we explore the deeper emotional and relational processes underneath them.

In other words:
An MFT helps you understand not just what is happening, but also why, and how to create lasting change in the relationships that matter most.
